Hi, I am low on cash flow atm and i recently purchased a flowerhorn and I dont want to put it in my 10 gallon tank as it houses a flowerhorn already so i was going to buy another 10 gallon tank for like 1 month so i can save up for a 110 gallon tank. As i was in the petstore my father urged me to buy a rubber maid instead from home depot. So i told him i was going to ask on this site to see if it was safe.

I went to home depot.com and saw 50 gallon tubs for 16 USD http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...03+90116+525763&marketID=116&locStoreNum=1248 i was like . I was wondering if it was possible to fill it half way with water and keep 3 3" flowerhorns in there. With the proper filtration of course and heating. I also wanted to ask about the light fixtures they sell at home depot " http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...rketID=116&locStoreNum=1248&categoryID=502059 " Can be used for the lighting. Sorry if something similar was posted, thanks

You can use both probably(the links didn't show).. I and others use rubbermaid tubs all the time. I have found that the clear plastic ones bow less for some reason, but you can make a brace for any of them out of wood to keep them from bowing too much.

Bowing is saying the rubbermaid will bend or stretch out on the sides, it will have a bulging effect.

I agree Rubbermaids can work, should do fine till u cn save for a 110. Of course no rubbermaid can give the visual stimulation of watching your fish like an aquarium whether glass or acrylic. Good Luck

Alright ima head down there sometime during the week as my flowerhorn arrives next week. Thanks guys

While you're there, pick up some wood to build outter brackets so you don't bow out too much

Ahhhh but is bowing bad or does it just make it look all saggy. I would have to keep to lid off becausehow would they get light..... Unless i cut the interior of the lid.

I luve your avatar neoprodigy :)

Bowing isn't all bad but severe bowing will cause water to poor out and the rubbermaid to be unstable.

I used the lid.. just trimmed for light to come through for a light sitting on top.. The lid does help bowing like said(I use the ones with lockable lids with the clips on the end to lock it on) but for me it didn't cure it completely. Still bowed on me a little. But was usuable. Some create frames for them to stop bowing like said. How high your water level will be determines bowing too. Lower the water level less it will bow.

I used a large 50g gold colored rubbermaid and that thing bowed like crazy and leaked like a siv.. I won't buy colored ones for aquarium use anymore.
