When does the face of a ruby red really start to blue really good at what size
I have a ruby red when i got him he was around 2 1/2" and was bright in color had bright blue face and all its hecause he was outside in a pond now hes still colorful all but his face at around 3" his face reflects some blue alot when the sun hits him. I have very dem lights on my tank

The colors can intensify and diminish based on mood, the fishes dominance in the tank, or if breeding. Also having other fishes that have similar blue coloration such as a nice acei, an ahli/fryeri etc can make the colors seem less intense.

I have 2 primary blue males in my tank, a Red Top Lwanda and a Ruby Red. The ruby red was dominant and always made the Lwanda look kind of dull. Then I added a S. Fryeri whose blue completely mutes the Ruby Red except what he's trying to breed.

+ 1 my eureka red only looks the best when breeding and he is the dominant male, but there are other males
