Rummynose sucked through Overflow!

I'm having a problem with my school of rummynose being sucked into the overflow weirs. I have about 60 of them and 5 have been sucked into the basement sump over the last 2 months. Luckily, 4 have survived. I'm thinking of placing some sort of plastic grid inside the overflow box behind the teeth. Has anyone done this? Any ideas?

You can buy a roll of plastic black gutter guard and cut a piece to attach to the overflow teeth and make it taller.
