Im setting up a 150 for my male dovii.Im using sand as a subtrate.Am i supposed to let the sand sit before running the filters.Im running two emp 400 filters and a canister,(dont know which one yet tho).

Keep the intakes at the mid point on the tank and let the sand settle for a couple of days before you start up the filters.

One thing to be aware of when ever using sand as a substrait... most filters will operate just fine with small ammounts of suspended sand in the water until a power failure or until you turn the filter off and then they refuse to restart on thier own.

You also need to clean out the spray bars a bit more often than normal.

you can wrap a sponge aroung the intake to strain the sand out

never used sand...just outta curiosity how do the filters handle it when u vac the sand?

Its best to shut them off during water changes. I switched from sand to crushed coral a long time ago.
