My lfs is having a few problems with their sw section and I want to be hired as a sw manager of sorts

I've been away from this section for a while, and just want some help and refreshers.

The tanks problems include algae everywhere and fish health, as well as empty taks left and right.

I plan on increasing flow and water quality, but my main problem is what the hell to stock the tanks with.

I have like 50 specimen tanks to work with and around 20 tanks that are either 40b or 75's (haven't been in a few weeks) as well as a 300 deep dimensions and a 240 square

T hanks:)

For the 240 square, you should do your big centerpiece. Like a huge ass eel, or a show size lionfish or two, and then stock the 300 as a full blown reef, with show size tangs etc.

Take some sections out of the specimen tanks and put some smaller fish in each one....

Just an example -
Clownfish in 1/10th of the section
inverts in 1/10th
gobies/blennies/sand sifters in 1/10th
and so on...

At least thats how I would do it.

go to other stores and look around and do corals, obviously if your having tank and fish problems i doubt you have corals

nope, the reef section is doing very well actually

they turned the 240 into a live rock tank.

mudslinger-- the specimen tanks are already divided... thats why they're called specimen tanks

Most places I go around here the specimen tanks have removable dividers in it, thats what he was probably refering too, you don't have to get snappy at the attempted help you asked for

Lol sorry if I came off that way, the specimen tanks range from 6 x 6 to 20 x 10 and there are a ton of them

I'm thinking clowns in 5 of them, inverts in the small ones, aggressive guys in the bigger ones depending on size

ive seen them as a hit or miss when stocking tanks. I have a client who keeps only high end stuff ($300+), and clients who keep the usual damsels, tangs, etc. I guess it would all depend on your areas market. Certainly make use of a few tanks for inverts, I know where I live LFS always lack those.

Something I wish my lfs would do is divide stock by "minimum tank size" and reef safe/ not reef safe. This would help with newcomers planning stock or if a customer didn't know what a species was they would have a general idea if it would work for them.
