Question not sure if i should post here, but how long will a well seeded freshwater sump with plenty of bio media still running about 10-13 yrs, last or start to go bad with a tank with no fish?

You can literally add water wait a few minutes and get temps to where you need it and add fish in small quantities. Don't dump 10 at a time. Maybe 2-3 per week so you don't crash the tank.

You're fine. I just started a tank with two sponges from another tank that I had for more than a decade. I just added the sponges got the temps to 80 ( I filled it with water and got it to 90 by accident) so I just waited a day and thats it or else I would've added my two fish right away.

How big is the sump and how big is the tank? If you have a 20 gallon sump on a 200 gallon I would think you need a canister or a bigger sump to properly filter it.

Sorry what i meant was my freshwater tank and wet dry has been running for 10-13 yrs. I just sold all my fish 4 days ago = fish less tank with water and sump still running (with enough bio media to seed 2-3 tanks). I am trying to sell the whole setup, tank- no stand-but with the DIY wetdry . Getting out of the hobby after 40 yrs plus. So how long will the the biofactor in the wetdry keep doing its job with a fishless tank before i have to tear it down if no buyers.

Oh I get what you're saying now. There were a few topics on this and no one can give a straight answer. I would tell you to go get some goldfish feeders and keep them as long as you need to until you decide what to do with the tank.

Sounds like a good experiment: test your water every 24-48 hours and when you zero out on nitrate, you will know it's time to break the tank down.

1ST- I now regret selling my 7 polys some as big 18" 2ND- I thought the tank and wetdry would sell much quicker. 3RD- i probably will add a few feeders and keep it in the MFK market place a little longer. 4th- As for the wetdry i hate to think that the well seeded bio media will probably go to waste. Thanks.

Never thought about adding fish food and the ammonia. Honestly i would be a little nervous with the latter, like how much and how often ?

Just a small amount of food each day as if you were feeding your fish. Not sure on the exact amount but there are no fish in the tank so you wont have to worry about your water parameters.
