i have a custom made tank and i want a tortiose. i saw these for 59.99 at the store. are these a good first tortiose. i have been keeping geckos and fish for years now but new at the tortiose thing.

i dont reccomend using a tank for torts...if anything use rubber maid containers that are lower walled so air circulates better and then when of size build outdoor enclosures and use the rubbermaid for the winters indoors if needed...russians arent bad for starters one thing they have as a definat positive for begginers is their relatively small size compared to other choices out there...im sure more will come your way...do your research on them before decideing to buy one all we can offer here is personal expierence and what we have read but still read up on russians yourself so you can get a better understanding of the time and care and space youll have to manage...

Very true! If you get a tank, your tortoise will be banging against the wall constantly, which is annoying for you, and for the tortoise. Use a large rubbermaid.
I'd research and make sure you want one. But I have one, and I'll say they can get very friendly, and eat from your hand and follow you around.

i have a cage made out of plywood and no glass, screen or anything you can see through. but will they chew on the plywood.

Tortoises don't chew, although big ones can push/dig their way through thin wood. Russian tortoises have "different" care needs too, check out the internet for caresheets.

True mine have been in wooden cages and they didn't chew but they weren't very happy while they were in these.

Jeez, let them dig. I have no idea why you use a rabbit cage.
