Just been doing some reading here and I just wanted to know how to locate good breeders rather than continuing to buy from them big boys. Also I want to get into some of the Cichlids that are not sold in stores. Any hints, or good breeders in the western states.

Find out if there is a local fish club there.Clubs are the only way to go

I am another transplant here.. Graduated in Pittsburgh, But was born in KCMO

put together a fish list that you want and order from tangledupincichlids or kens fishfarm. they should have just about anything you want.
