I love looking at Youtube vids of these amazing cichlid tanks. There's trimacs, salvini, red terrors, jaguars, green terrors, peacock bass, bocourrti and others. How do all these cichlids live in one tank without killing each others all the time. I know that they are huge 600 gal tanks but even when I keep smaller 2 inch cichlids together they are constantly at each other and often there are often fatalities. Is the trick to keeping them overstocking to disperse aggression or what? Right now I have two 2-3 inch small green terrors in a 50 gallon and I need to add a small 1.5 inch jaguar. Will this work?

In larger tanks overstocking works better but with a 50 gallon it will be a disaster. It can work for a while but eventually one fish will demand the tank for itself. Also take into account that for every tank you see where this works there are many that don't work. You could have a 500 gallon that's peaceful and you decide to add one more fish and this could flip the switch on ur fish and then they will fight. Trial and error is all it is. Just so u know your 50 gallon is way too small for even one gt so having 2 and a jag could lead to disaster

IMO you need at least a 75 to keep an agressive cichlid and at least a 125 to keep multiple cichlids. I had 5geophagus altrifons in a 75 and had a lot of promblems with these guys and they are wimps compared to most cichlids. So space space and more space is the key to keeping cichlids from killing each other. This is why I enjoy larger barbs and characins instead of cichlids. They are a lot less agressive thus a lot more manageable.

Raising fish together. water temperature, space and def overstocking all play keyroles in keeping aggressive fish together. take it from mee :) see my fish in the photo lounge. if u have good water change routines and dont over feed and good filtration let u push ur stocking limits To a degree. this doesnt mean your going to make it imossible for fish to turn around with bumping into another fish lol.

Thanks guys. Yeah I know about the space issue. I know that I would get at least one comment on that. I have a larger tank for them. The 50 is just to grow them in. I start them in a 27 gallon but the little jag is starting to push around my larger geo suranmensis. My larger 150 gal tank is still not truly big enough but it is what I have. I just like to grow them as big as I can and then find them a new home once they get larger. I just have never been able to do much of tank because where I live it is hard to get larger cichlids all at the same time so I have to grow them.
