Looking to purchase some 3M ColorQuartz sand tomorrow and was contemplating between the S and T grades. I have not seen the sand in person but from pictures, I like the look of S better. My question is, how is the cleaning process? Does it get sucked up into filters or the vac? Your responses will be greatly appreciated.

I have both and like the S grade better. It looks good and flows naturally. It is also heavy enough to sink well and not get into overflows, cant vouch for other filters though. Just keep the intakes at normal height and you should be fine. When I vacuum the hose does pick some up if I get too close but its such a minuscule amount that I don't really care.

I picked T grade over the S. The T grade is essentially mini-gravel; its appearance and texture is actually very similar to freeze dried Taster's Choice. The S grade can be likened to tiny ball bearings, very uniform in size and shape.

My python still manages to suck it up when vacuuming, but the grains drop like a rock when the fish kick it up, so I doubt the filters will have trouble with it.

S grade is fine for the vac. i just did my 15 gallon. T grade is a little bit more abrasive then the s grade just to let u know. both are great.

the S grade is not super fine. its a perfect sand weight and mass. it settles within 1.5 seconds. i did a few tests when i first got it. i didn't want to have problems after it was in the tank.

I really wish I could get some samples of this sand! I have been trying to find a source for 3m sand locally, but have not had success.

Did a little search for ya. Try and call these guys. They should have what you're looking for.

Pool installation companies should always have 3M. If your nice to them, they should sell you some.
My dads an accountant for a pool company. They have ever color and size of 3M. Not to mention
every other type of sand, gravel, and bead. I just walk into the warehouse with a bunch of buckets and go nuts.

I just picked up my black S grade yesterday and I love it.
