I have not had one bit of exp with serasalmus species. I just got a new 75 4 free and I am in planning stages, what are the max size of the solitary beauties? I know their are many different varieties and all, so throw a few at me that I could grow out in this new little tank and then upgrade to a tank no larger than a 125.

with a 75/125 you can get pretty much any serra species, especially if you're planning on growing one out yourself, since they grow so slowly.

Umm I dont believe there is a Serrasalmus Maximus!

There is a Serrasalmus Maculatus b ut no Maximus....

I was just makinga play on words. What is the max size of some different serrasalmus species?

Oh...ooops...

Well the largest Serrasalmus species is the S. Manuelli closely followed by the S. Rhombeus but good luck getting them to monstrous sizes as it would take years and years so yes a 75gallon could hold just about any serra for life.

Some of the smaller serra such as S. Sanchezi, Spiloplurea, Maculatus, Brandtii and Irritans could easily be housed in a 40breeder.

Really? That is great news! It had always been impressed on me that some of these fish (ie rhoms) need hundreds of gallons to thrive. Also if I snap a pic of some juvies at my LFS could someone possibly ID them, or is it to difficult at a young age?

I appreciate the help,
Quinn
