My male trimac quite eating and went grey he is very lethargic and just not him self. in his tank i have some anubis is this poisonous. because he chews on this all the time. please help. p.s i alread add salt the temps at 82 parameters are good.

what exactly are the parameters? when was the last time you did a water change? what size tank? what do you feed? Any tankmates?

first thing I would do is a water change...about 50% until you can provide with some more information to try to narrow down what might be going on.

i did a 50% w/c wensday and i do a huge one on saturday, perameters are, amonia 0 ,nitrait 0 nitrite .25 all well with in normal any ideas this is my favorite fish.

ok, what about tank size, tankmates, what've you been feeding? have you given him any store bought feeders recently? introduced any new fish to the tank recently? if so did you quarunteen them first?

There's an old saying... when nothing changes nothing changes...

With our fish the opposite holds true... if something changed (went wrong), then something changed... what's changed?

Either something changed that altered his common mood... often a new tankmate, change in decor, change in diet, etc...

Something changed which altered water chemistry... disturbed bacterial colonies, PH swing, etc...

A disease or foreign chemical was introduced... water change with too cool water, random cleaning agent got into water, etc...

But if your fish was happy/healthy one day and wasn't the next... something changed that day... the hard part is identifying exactly what changed...

2 days ago i forgot to plug in the heater after a w/c temp droped to 70 over night/ re hooked it up and the thing went hay wire the tank was then at close to 90, i then turned it down and now every thing is working well and at about 80. the tank is a 90 gal, he is solo except a few danios for him to chase i did add a female flower horn to the tank today to see if it sparked interest no luck. i rearange his tank once every two weeks maybe i will change it back tonight and see what happens, you think its just stress from all the b/s thats been haping . i have never had so much trouble with heaters. asa the past few months

If redecorating is normal... I doubt that would cause the problem... yet I think leaving the decor the same allows the fish to feel more "at home" thus reducing stress in general... but again, I doubt redecorating caused this issue...

A 20*F temporature swing is huge for a fish... I think yo uhave identified your cause...

Such swings causes stress/shock in fish which in turn lowers their immune system. Ick is basically always present in an aquarium, but the fish can normally resist it easily. When stressed or the immune system is otherwise compromised they often fall victim to ick.

Whether it's simply stress or ick, I think you have identified your problem... I would, naturally, stabilize the temp to 80~82*F and monitor the fish closely... if it shows white spots or begins scratching itself on decor treat for ick and/or other parasites...

:iagree: i'd stop redecorating the tank every couple of weeks...that's almost the equivalent of moving him to a new tank every 2weeks. also get the temp stabilized and see how he does. add some aquarium salt if you want to help reduce his stress. in the meantime I wouldn't add any more fish and maybe even keep the lights low for a few days to keep stress minimal.

I agree with this. And I think I would just leave his set up alone for now. Let him strengthen back up to normal. Less stress will make a quicker recovery.
