This has been ticking away at the back of my head for a good while now but, is it just me or do the majority of south american aro's you see pic's of from aquarium just have something not quite right about them? Now i dont mean all or just silvers, there are plenty of blacks that look like this too, what i'm on about is the height/length proportions.... the typical wild aro as seen in documentary's such as: 'river of fire', imax: 'amazon' and bbc: 'the mighty amazon'. would seem to be a stocky fish, with a deep belly as well as a long length. simply put, lots of sa aro's upto 20" seem to have the proportions of an infant rather that a juvi/adult.... it's like what happens with gars in warmer tanks than there natural environment, there metabilisum speeds up and growth is effected. only at normal trop temps, a aro's in it natural temp so its odd... next would diet be responsible? my black seem to be at more of a natural proportion with a fairly deep belly but i only feed him once a day or once every other day, he gets pellet, bloodworm and frozen prawns. what do u guys make of this and do u agree that there are lots of odd shape sa aro's about?
