i currently have a 55g because my 125g exploded.

in the 55 gal i have a red devil, v fenestratus, texas and a green terror. with 2 cons and 2 giant danios as dithers. they are still relatively small and have been doing fine for a few months now. red devil and fenestratus are deff the bosses of the tank.

i know the answers are going to vary but in your opinions with good filtration and hiding places could this work in a 125 for life? i also accept the fact that some devils are just vicious killers and am willing to part with mine if that is the case. aside from that i think it will work, but i would like some other opinions. thank you.

Your 125g exploded? How did it "explode"? Does this tank have a center brace? How thick is the glass? Why not get another 125g (with center brace this time if this may be the culprit)? You can't keep all those fish together in a 55g permanently at all and there is a big risk the giant danios will be eaten eventually by your red devil, vieja and green terror.

You said a 125 right? Given that down the line, you are willing to give up your red devil, this might work. It will require some major water change schedule for all these fish to be housed properly, but w.o. the RD I think it might.

Standard 125 gal is 72" x 18" @ 21" tall...

The OP asked about keeping them in a 125 gal long term, not 55 gal...

It is somewhat Common for Red Devils to not accept tankmates even in larger tanks...

If termperments of individial fish allow, Yes I believe a 125 gal would be suitable for the 4 Cichlids you mentioned and a couple of Convicts... I doubt the Dnios will last 'long term' with these fish regardless of tank size...

In regards to aggression, I feel this completely depends on the individual fish, but there is a high risk these fish will not get along in a 125 gal long term...

i bought the 125 used off craigslist and there was no center brace, so it was deffeneltly old. it was double thick glass too. but a few days with water in it and it exploded under the pressure.

and im not worried about the giant danios. they are just dithers. if they get eaten, ill get new ones or something else.

thanks for the opinions guys. i'd love to go bigger than a 125 but i'd be worried about my floor getting ruined.
