I was wondering how many people have a community setup, be it temporary or long term. Obviously once mature it might not work but who's got em' and how long?
I have a 55G (obviously temp) with:
(1) Green Terror
(2) Red Hook Silver Dollar
(3) Colombian (Red/Blue)Tetra
(1) Common Pleco

Group Shot!
This will only be their first week together so a lot of supervision/time (it's my day's off).

I've got a 125 with a group of red head tapajos and 30-40 tetras, some f1 acaras, and a rotkeil severum. Slowly adding other tankmates as its only a few months old

I keep 2 South American community tanks

above is a 150 gal northern S Amer tank during feeding, most of the time it looks more like the pic directly below. It has fish from Guyana and Panama

The other is an unheated 125 gal community tank of Uruguayan fish

My Jack Dempsey tries to eat every tankmate I give him (except the female JD that was 2" larger than him :)), so right now he is housed alone with a group of Blackskirt Tetras. He never so much as flinches even if they're right in his face...

Wow, those are some amazing tanks! ....They make my tank look like a shot glass!
:jaw:
Well, I guess it was smart of me to start out small..... I guess. Hopefully I'll be providing them with a little more elbow room soon. I cant wait to see some more of these tanks....

I don't know if this counts as a community but I got a 75 with Oscar an calico convict male. Hopefully soon a jd instead of convict thou

Seems to me, most S Amer cichlids are endemic to habitat that contains a large variety of cichlid species living together, which makes a community tank possible.
Many (not all) North and Central Amer cichlids are the only, or practically the only cichlid in their natural habitat.
xC beani and N haitiensus pop into my mind, which makes it difficult to maintain them in community settings, unless the tanks are much larger than most aquarists consider normal.
