Hi :) , I've been living for 2 years in Mexico (I'm half german half mexican), and in the city where I live is really hard to find cichlids in the LFS (even convicts are rare here  :irked:), just oscars, bloody parrots, angels and discus.....well, my GF will go to USA the next weekend, and the place where she will go doesn't have any LFS :irked: , just a walmart :s....I hope she will find some cichlids there, but I want to ask you if you can help me....If you can say me what kind of CA/SA cichlids are common in Wal-marts and the regular name they use with those fishes (and aprox prices if you can remember please:) )....so I can make a list and give it to her so she can buy me someone.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my poor English:irked:

most wal-marts only have the same fish you're already encountering in mexico. Where is she going exactly?

all i can think of is oscars:irked: . maybe she can visit a town near there and pick you something up at an lfs there. good luck:)

Edit: i wouldn't buy stuff from there anyways, because the fish probably won't last a week, and if they do they will just give your fish some sort of disease.

Hi :)....She will go to a city named Nogales, in Arizona St.....
Since I live here, I've been searching for salvinis and somekind of vieja, geophagus or something like that....
I know that commonly almost all the fishes in WM are sick :S....and I guess that probably they will not survive the travel :irked: ....but that's my last hope to find some of those guys :P
Thanks a lot :)

Two problems:
1. You can't take animals across the border. Granted, it is easier to take something to Mexico from the US than it is to take something from Mexico to the US.

2. All African and South American cichlids are tossed into the same tank. They are labelled "Assorted Cichlids". The best you can do is have your girlfriend buy random fish and hope for the best.

What you might want to consider is buying some fish online and have them shipped to your nearest airport. They will still have to go through customs, so check into the requirements and if Mexico requires an import license.

Hi :) and thanks a lot for the answers, about this:

The truth I don't know about this, I'm an ignorant about the laws here  ..... But here, all the people with SW tanks go directly to USA, buy the fishes and came with them whitout any import license or something like that....even my GF buyed a puppy the last december and came here without any problem.....

I've never been in a walmart, so I didn't know about the "assorted cichlids"....I guess I will follow this advise and hope that she buy the correct fish  .....I will send her with a lot of pics so she can choose the right one  .....
Thanks alot again
