i want to make a SA/CA community tank with my 90 gallon. I have a few fish already in seperate tanks. i am really looking for more fish to look into.

Here is what i have right now-
2x EBJD
2x Red Jewel
2x Convicts
2x fire mouth

How aggressive is this list so far? Any other suggestions would be great. I do plan on making the tank a planted one. I am looking to slowly breed some of these as well. So they will be put in a 20L every so often. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Just my opinion but.... Jewels are African. Convicts can be bastards and will likely pick on the EBJD's unless they are quite alot bigger.

Are red jewels CA/SA? I have kept all four without terminal aggression. I have had very many tussles between my Convicts and most ANYTHING as well as a non-stop posturing between a EBJD and a firemouth.

I have had no problem between my Red Jewels and convicts though. On a side note, the Jewels obliterated a pair of Kribs though and would be very observant of the interaction between the Jewels and the EBJD's.

If the jewels breed, all bets are off and you will probably see intense aggression in you tank. Be prepared with a cycled tank just in case.

ok. well the jewels are small now and sexing them is impossible so im not sure if ill get them to breed. I think i might keep the cons out. as far as the rest of my list are in a 20L together right now. They are all getting along just fine. they are still all small, non over 2 inches. This is why im asking. I want to get this tank up before they get to big.

I would leave things as they are for a while and see how things go as EBJDs can be quite sensitive and as you probably know they can be quite shy. As things progress you could maybe add some dithes such as silver dollars or maybe even a severum which aren't too aggresive but will add some diversity to the tank.

I know this does not usually work but what about adding some yellow labs or other Africans? would things get to aggressive then?

Jewels are African, but they are from the rivers of West Africa, and they have more in common -- in terms of water conditions -- with CA/SA cichlids than they do with the African rift lake cichlids

so, no, I would not recommend adding yellow labs or other africans, it doesn't make much sense

but I also don't think you need to get rid of the Jewels. my brother keeps Jewels with Convicts and GTs with minimal difficulty (other than typical cichlid disagreements)

ok. i now have a tank for africans and a tank for SA/CA cichlids. I was wondering what else i could add to my sa cichlid tank. I would like a little bit of color if possible. thanks for the info. Btw common names would be best because i dont know abbreviations.
