Ok my friend got rid of his Os today. Gave mee some zoo med red shrimp. It is high in protein and freeze dried. It has picks of convicts and s few other fish on container. I am not one to buy into the pic, but for an occasional would it be ok. He also gave me his breeding insects. Super worm wax worms and crickets. In doses wod it be ok to feed my jag and other ca/SA fish this. I know insects do have hard shells

Nutrition wise, yes that's fine.

Now whether or not your Os will eat the insects is a toss up.

But the diet is varied, so yeah it works!

Keep us posted on the progress

I've fed my Oscar crickets. However, I'm not sure if insects are a big part of their natural diet.

Wax worms (galleria mellonella) are 46% fat and I'd avoid those. Nightcrawlers are much lower fat content (4.4%), while many other worms are too high as well. (Butter worms are 23.2% and giant meal worms are 33.0%.) Most of the other worms are not technically worms iirc, but are a developmental stage of something else (e.g., a beetle.) Fat tends to be high as it's a reserve needed for energy until it morphs.
