SA/CA GROWOUT UPDATE

Just thought I'd post a video of the growouts in the 90 gallon. I know it seems like a circus in there haha but the vieja and sajica will be put in their own monster tank in the near future while the winemilleri, gymnogeophagus balzanii and true parrots will also go into a bigger separate 180 gallon. Not any huge changes since the last update, the vieja are obviously growing at a good rate. Don't mind the extra heater hanging in the back. I've noticed a few fish scratching so am taking precautionary action with raising the temp to the upper 80s and adding non iodized salt for the next 10 days to treat for ich just in case it's in there. The fish still seem happy as ever with the treatment so that's good.

Nice your sajica are growing fast like your vieja
Parrots are a little slower growers huh, my parrots took a bit to get to 2" but now are almost 3.5"-4" I'm stoked

What are you feeding, and what type of viejas?
 
I feed southern delight power feed, southern sleight veggie krill, some nls 0.5mm pellets for the smaller guys that don't get a chance for trade bigger food and then I feed some variety of some greens like spinach along with some fruit like mango. I pre soak the bigger pellets like the power feed and veggie krill for 15 minutes then just break it up in the tank since the fish aren't big enough to eat the pellet whole yet.

Ya the parrots aren't quite as fast growers as the vieja and sajica but have still put on some pretty good size since I got them a little over a month and a half ago. They were tiny when I get them but I suspect they will grow quite quickly after they get over that 2 inch mark. I'm actually surprised how fast the sajica grow. I figured they were slower growers since the males only top out at 5 inches. When did you get your parrots again? And at what size

I got mine in late September, yes I wish my sajica was as big as yours, male and female sajica that I got are sick right now but seem a little better I'm just happy there eating again
I got the parrots at .5"
 
Ya I got mine a few weeks after you. Yours are definitely putting on really good size then if they're already at 3.5 to 4 inches. That's almost a 2 inches a month! Haha good work man
 
Yah there's 3 big ones which I believe are males they always lip lock and then go to there corners of the tank and then 2 that are smaller I'm guessing are females. They are really nice fish can't wait to see them get bigger. Yah I saw them catch up on the growing after I thinned out my stock
