With any luck i will get this tank running soon, then just have to cycle. The tank is 84"L X 27"w X 32"h inside. it will have lots of hidding space with rock work and drift wood. Current stock i have growing out in other tanks (this is what i think not 100% sure on species)

1 Herichthys cyanoguttatus (texas) 6-7"
1 Aequidens ? (sold as a green terror) 4-5"
2 Cichlasoma octofasciatum (Jack dempsey) 3-4"
1 Heros efasciatus (Turquoise Severum) 3-4"
1 Astronotus ocellatus (Red Tiger Oscar) 1-2"
1 Amphilophus labiatus (Red Devil) 1-2"

1 Platydoras costatus (Striped Raphael) 3"
3 Pimelodus pictus (pictus catfish) 3"
1 Apteronotus albifrons (Black Ghost Knifefish) 6-7"

I also have convicts i have 4 large males 3-4" plan to use them and maby more as dither fish. i do have a female but not sure if i will add her.

Fish i'm goin to add are Cichlasoma salvini I'm thinking a pair not to sure just yet.

Now thats what i have going i think i could fit one or two more fish but not to sure. They are all small but getting along this far. what i really wanted was a Parachromis managuensis but have had not luck finding one up my way. Do you think any of the Parachromis would work in this set up of course not a dovii. If not what about a pair of Herichthys bartoni (Barton's cichlid) or a single Cuban Cichlid. I don't know if i can get any of these the only one i've been looking for is the managuensis.

I'm looking for good advice my hope is growing them out together will work better in the long run. thanks

sounds good though you will most likely run into trouble with that red devil when he gets older but who knows you may get lucky. i think a jag or a cuban would also work good with that stock if you can find one though keep an eye on the GT, severum and O as all the fish grow as these guys aren't really that aggressive for the most part they may get picked on, and keep a super close eye on you bgk. i had one in my tank with my cichlids and he was doing awesome until the frikin african jewels i had in there to breed feeders for me tore him up and i didnt see him until he had to much damage to save him and had to put him down :( with your fish they will probably leave him alone but just make sure to keep an eye on him since especially when they are little they like to hide a lot but since he is already bigger than them it most likely wont be an issue

I think you have a good recipe for success. The devil would be my first guess as to a future trouble maker, but with the other big, tough guys starting out at a larger size is a good idea. A cuban or a parachromis(except dovii) could work. May be a good thing for balancing out aggression. If you stumble upon a mota, loisellei or a freddy pick it up.

Hey thanks. My one concern is the devil becoming a ahole but only time will tell. i do want to find a parachromis of some kind i have never owned one that is why i was askin and from the pics i've seen they can be stunning.
anothere thing i was wondering is would a freddy work with salvini just because they seem to look simular in some pics.

sal should be fine with a freddy they dont look that much a like and the size difference should be enough for them not to view each other as a threat anyways, but sals are little aholes so only way to know for sure is to try it out

Sounds great, as mentioned before keep an eye on the O, GT, and Severum. Especially the latter two as they are generally pretty passive. Also In my experience female convicts can be a real pain once they spawn and can bring the aggression in your tank up quite a bit. It seems to me that once you get one aggressive fish in your tank the other fish with aggressive tendencies will feed off that.

i guess it has been decied no Parachromis in this tank. the site i'm ordering my fish off did not find me any Parachromis but i am getting 6 juvi Cichlasoma salvini and 6 juvie Herichthys bartoni. i think i will pick a pair from each mayby a male and 2 females, if it works out that way.
i have not kept any sa/ca cichlids till they were adults before so i'll see what happens.

I would steer clear of any Parchromis or any Amphilophus... while there are many amazing species in each of these genuses, they just get to aggressive. I'm not saying it would be impossible to keep them in such as set up, but it surely would make for a delicate balance...

I think keeping the approach you have now and stockign with multiple species of medium growing, moderately aggresive Cichlids is a great move.
