I was searching catfish pics like normal and found the thailand fishing adventures website. On there I looked at introduced species. Some of the species include tiger shovelnose catfish, redtail catfish, and the rtc x tsn hybrid! There are other suprising fish from south america there also. Just look at the size of some of those hybrids and rtc, and tsn! That's probably what kind of fish we would have swarming all over the USA if we had a warmer climate!

sweet fish...is that a perruno x rtc hybrid on top?

no, it looks more like rtc x tsn.

Thailand has such a huge aquaculture and aquarium industry, along with tropical weather that it's not surprising to find these introduced fish thriving there.

It is a rtc x tsn hybrid. There were pictures of one on there that looked to be almost 4'. So that tells you how big they can get, and being as they haven't been around that long, they're probably not even fully grown!

weird my rtc x tsn looks a lot different in the head and especially the mouth. mine doesn't have an overbite like that.

Yeah, if you go and look at the site a lot of them look way different. Mine's pattern is way different than that one even though mine's larger. Mine does have the overbite though. There's one on the site that has the deformed slopping skull that we see alot in tsn including my own. There's a pic of a monster one on there that looks close to 3 1/2-4'.

I'll make it easy for you guys here's pics of the biggest one's on the sites. MONSTERS!!!

notice the heads on those two!

Damn thats a lot of introduces species....Arapaima, Temensis, RTC, TSN, RTCXTSN, Pacu, Black Pacu...Aro....trying to make their own amazon...Thats a lot of predatory fish...wonder how the natives are doing...

I think that the hybrids and rtc were introduced on purpose because of their growth rates, and the hybrids were man made in japan supposedly for their ability to grow fast and be a food fish. So far as I know thailand is the only place in the world to catch this hybrid in the wild. Probably start showing up in florida and other states since so many people have them now. I have noticed from a freak accident that this hybrid can stand severely low temps for at least 5 days with no ill effect. One of my heaters busted this past winter and the water with my big one was down to 48f I was affraid that he would die surely, but he acted normal even at those temps. This hybrid is tough as nails. I feel bad mine expirienced that, but he survived, and has been warm every since.
