every sa cichlid ive kept seems to be very hardy, any one ever have any luck cycling with them? im think about getting a jag or red devil, what do you think?

if you insist on cycling with fish, just get a couple feeders. The better approach would be drops of ammonia or even dump a chunk of food in there. you just want to get some ammonia levels to get the BB going and that doesn't need fish. I wouldn't waste my money on buying a fish you like and shortening their life just to cycle
