setting up an all SA tank.
thinking of adding some cichlids, however,i dont like those common cichlids like green terrors, oscars etc.:D
thinking of red severums, uarus and for sure,parrots.:headbang2
tankmates will be pbass and some other SA predators.
but they will all be generally non-aggressive.
will these work fine?
can i get info on the red severum, uarus and parrots?
how fast do they grow, are they aggressive, max size etc.
will they be able to keep up with cichla in terms of growth?
thanks in advance!!

You're wanting to mix a group of calmer cichlids, with larger predatory ones (even though the parrot, h. spitticus, will get large as well) You would probably get more enjoyment going one way or the other. The sev/uaru/parrot/?/? would make a nice setup. Maybe with some geos and the like. Or do an all pred tank, like cichla and crenicichla.

i've seen this mix done before.
but i just want to clarify some things.
so that i know if i need to buy some fish larger than others for a head start etc.

wild oscars would look nice

i was thinking oscar...
but might get too aggressive for some of the fish i'd be keeping.
plus i dont really like the look of old oscars.:D

Oscars more aggresive than the large predators youve named? Doubtful very doubtful

The parrots would be nice looking with your bass, you'd just have to make sure you got some decent sized ones. I hear they kind of grow slow (no first hand experience with these guys though).

The uaru would be nice to as long as you have a small shoal of them. They feel better and look better in groups. A single individual will not be very active, IMO

The severum I would pass on when mixing with big, fast preds. They are pretty timid and would have a hard time competing for food. They look great but not nearly bold enough to challenge your bass, uaru or parrots for food.

Again this is just my opinion on the fish you mentioned.

Good luck and happy hunting:headbang2
