what kind of south american gar would be good with some large, aggressive cichlids and a silver arowana?

how tough are florida gars? i know they aren't SA, but my brother really, really likes them.:irked: (i was hoping for a SA only tank)

there is no such thing as a south american gar. florida/spottes are pretty tough, but i think most south american cichlids would beat the hell out of it. probably not a good mix.

alrighty then. thanks a lot.

what about non-true gars?

specifically what SA cichlids are you talking about? most of them get pretty large and wont tolerate smaller tankmates. if you want non-true gar then you may have better luck in other monster fish.

for cichlids, its going to be a jag, mota, and some amphiliphus species

i probably wouldnt risk it...even on a false gar.

Umm tropical gars are not even close to the smallest of the Gar family..That would be the short nose gar(Lepisosteus platostomus) and are found in waters of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, Which are in Central America!!
