Going to be trading my 9" Royal Clown Knife for 2 "South American" gars. Roughly 6" in length. I've never had a gar, any tips or concerns?

Any comments and/or confirmation of "South American" name are sought after!:D

Heres pics of them with their current owner, they will be going into my 125gal. I anticipate no problems between them and my arowana, the knifefish has been causing more issues with the arowana so I am glad to trade.

Well, they aren't real gar, but rather a gar-like characin (tetra); Boulengerella maculata. Doesn't get as big nor have the same teeth as a real gar, but still a neat fish.

Nomad, how long did it take for yours to get that size?

i got it 2yrs ago at 12"....i also got a 6" who grew to 9 " in 6 months once I managed to feed pellets. slow growers but food quality is key. GL with them.
also this thread should be on the "other characins" forum.
