I work in a lab that is involved with SA knife fish research. We currently buy live fish from a breeder, and I have past experience with breeding livebarers and cichlids, so I suggested I try breeding some fish so we don't have to keep buying from a breeder.

So... Does anyone here breed knife fish? I suppose some of you might breed Glass Kinfes and Black Ghost Knifes, but does anyone breed any other species? Ones that someone would have to buy online, or elsewhere? BGK and Glass knifes give of pulse EOD's, and I am looking for breeders who have also breed wave EOD fish. I know some about their EOD's and can identify species by them, so I am looking more towards information about the artificial conditions you provide. Pictures, notes, any any advise would be of help. I just would like to know the process. Thanks!

As far as i know no one on this forum has succesfully bred knives on purpose (some rare accidents have happened) but none of the fry survived to adolescence.

your best bet at breeding them is to get a large planted tank(200 gallons?) and a top notch filtration system(fluidized bed with K1 Kaldness is what i recommend) and several(8-12) young knives, say about 3 inches and grow them up together, also provide them with plenty of hiding spots as they are nocturnal and the best quality live food you can get
if they successfully lay the eggs on any ornament or hiding spot(as they are sticky) remove the media the eggs are attached to and put it in a tank with a sponge filter and plants
then if they hatch feed infusoria till about 1 month old then feed newly hatched brine shrimp till big enough to eat bloodworms.
