I was wondering about sabertooth tetra's.. well, at least that's what they label it over here, i think we call it some kind of charicin on the forum.
They run at a super ridiculous cost over here.. or maybe it's just me... a 3inch would cost me roughly $90 CAD to buy! I see it sometimes, it's not a fish that's always around, but they do sometimes import it! How much is it suppose to be, and i'm located in canada!
And what's your thoughts on it? agressive? i just want one, they look soooo awesome! Eating habits? tank size? filtration? tank mates? Thought i ask the pros and not the LFS... cuz all they want is to sellL!!!!!!!!!!!

search " saber tooth payara Hydrolycus scomberoides " on google i just did and got all sorts of info :)

There are a few differnet species of this fish. The most common is the Hydrolycus scomberoides and its the least expensive. Then you have the hydrolycus tatuaia or red tail payara and then the mightyist of them all the Armatus. There are maybe 2 other species and they are not very common around my area. Look in the other characins forum for a captive care guide for these fish in the sticky's. I personally own 3 red tails or hydrolycus tatuaia's and love them . They eat live feeders mostly but it is said they can be trained to eat dead foods. They are not usually aggressive to anything that is not of food size. And most other good sized characins make good tank mates. Mine are with a school of hujeta's and do great together. Another good tank mate is a few red tail barracuda. Or any of the ACE species.

theyre $40 usd on aquascapeonline. but i dont know if theyll ship to canada

If that 90cad price is for a scomb then its high. If its for a TAT then its not bad. And if its for a Armatus then its a steal. It doesn't sound ridiculus to me. If it where a common everyday fish like a cichlid then I would agree. But you can go to 10 lfs's and never see one of these payayra. And then you can go to walmart and buy a assortment of all different kinds of cichlids.

depending on species, the price can be overly retarded or a total steal.
it really depends on how much you want the fish and how much youre willing to spend IMO.
as for basic care,it also varies with the species.

Wish you live somewhere near Toronto

Im willing to part my 7.5" red tail payara (tat) for $70 obo
