I’m actually from Elk Grove but most people will recognize Sacramento. New to the site and been keeping fish for about 2-3 years now. I have an empty 180gal sitting in my garage waiting to be set up. I’m going to build a stand for it, get the glass top, light fixture and the filtration set up. My plan so far is to put my 8-9 inch Petsmart Midas, 7-8 inch Flowerhorn, 9-10 inch Jardini Aro, and I would like to add one or two more fish to the mix. I was thinking of either a couple of the smaller Peacock Bass or a Large Pike, or any other suggestions you guys and girls might have. I’m looking for something fairly active and would enjoy the occasional feeder, that I will get from raising the fry in my African Malawi tank. The two LFS, in Sacramento, that I have seen PB and Pikes regularly are Capitol Aquarium and Exotic, I have also seen them at the PetClub on Bond and 99. Any fellow hobbyist in the area know what type of PB or Pike these places have or what types they have seen them carry in the past? The tank will be bare and I will be using a 1500gph Seio pump for circulation, an Emp400 and possibly a XP3 for filtration, along with 50% weekly water changes. :D

Check out The Pet Connection, Auburn Blvd near American River College, The whole back of the store is Aquaria. I don't know if they have what you're looking for or not, but other then Petsmart and Petco the big three in town that I'm aware of are Capitol, Exotic, and Pet Connection.

YMMV

Good Luck!

Thanks qumqats - Been there and I actually got one of my pike from there but took forever to clearly identify it. O Street Aquarium is a smaller one but they have very clean tanks, you ever go there?

I don't get downtown very often. However I have heard that there's another shop near Capital that must be this one on 'O' St you mention. I hesitate to go to fish stores these days. It's far too tempting!! I've got too many fish already.

I'll be doing a batch of buying in the near future when I start stocking a 60G and 180G I'm working on setting up. However I won't be getting any monsters. I'm getting little fish and waiting the years for them to turn into monsters. My first 2" Clown Loaches have already doubled+ in size! When they and some others I have in the q-tank grow up I'll have the 60G and 180G filled!

It's tough resisting temptation and stocking a tank to the size the fish will be as adults rather than the size they are NOW.

I completely agree qumqats. I held off purchasing anything until we moved to the new house and got my last tank (180gal), and I got the itch again.

If you don't mind the drive you might want to check out Aqua Life in Rocklin. It's on the corner of Pacific Street and Anthony. Not a large shop, but the staff is awesome.
