I woke up today to learn from my parents that the Great blue herron had caught a rainbow trout and started eating it... This happened in my back yard, where we have a small river and a deep (8 ft) pool that houses kivers, rainbows, brook trout, pickeral and bullheads. The weather has been working against us this yr, as the river is mostly dried out and stagnant from the lack of rain. I guess there is hardly any oxygen in the water, because 2 of the other trout also died, swimming upside down and breathing heavy.
So later this afternoon i took a walk down to the river and saw that another rainbow trout was on its side on the sandbar, gasping for air. I tried to save the trout, but it wouldnt swim normal and eventually ended up dying as well. Mind you, these were our pets all summer. Whenever we had guests, we would let them feed the trout and we also fed them every day. To not be wasteful, after the trout had perished I dressed it and cleaned it. Poor female! After feeding the fish all summer It's now the fishes turn to feed us, and with a little cooking flair I hope to make some nice filets. Later we brought an air compressor down to the water to aerate the water, We dont want to lose any more fish due to the lack of O2
Its a sad day, i feel as tho we lost our back yard pet fish.

Another rainbow trout died today. probably between 11"-13" I dont know the water parameters of the river, but i doubt i could change it even if i knew. I dont think theres anymore trout left. have to wait till spring when they stock the rivers again.

Sorry, I didn't see where you mentioned the river. Thought it was just the 8 foot pool, and with that there's a possibility of cooling it.
