I was setting up my new planted tank, I bought some Schultz Aquatic Plant Soil , and some black moon sand.

I pour the soil in both tanks, and then put the moon sand on top of the soil, it looked great I was so happy. I planted my plants and then I did it, the dumbest thing ever, I forgot to put something in the tank to deflect the water. so as soon as I poored the water in, all the sand and soil got stirred up, the soil settled over the sane. I now have 25 dollars worth of sand hidden in the soil.

Dayum, dood. No way to separate it all out? Maybe a strainer or something. Might take a bit of effort but perhaps you can salvage some of the $25.

That mixture would have ended up the same way with or without the deflector. Smaller grains will always end up below the larger grains. Eventually the sand will work its way to the bottom.

It actually turned out kinda cool. After turning on the filtration it mixed together, and dnow I have strips of blac sand running through the whole tank. however more bad news, I had a leaky bulkhead, and did what no one should ever do, tightend it one turn to many and cracked the glass. I saved all th plants and the sand, now just need to get another used tank. I hope to put some picutrues up in a couple weeks of the whole system, it's two 20 gallon tanks built into the wall.
