This afternoon I found my acara Felix on the floor. He was clear across the fish room near the window. My miracle fish finally ran out of lives. For those of you who don't know, he arrived in a bag with no water (burst). He was electrocuted by a bad heater, and took a prat fall on concrete. He survived all that. If I had to guess I'd say he jumped a couple of hours before I found him.
Felix was lively, interactive and always came up to greet me. He bonded really well with my Chocolate Bobo. The rainbow Pepper was his buddy/sparring partner. He was an instigator too, pushing Bobo at the BP and Oscar and starting scuffles. Intimidated the syno catfishes. He'd pop the parrot on his belly at times. Could pack away food, too.
He hadn't shown a leaping tendency since being in the main tank. I have no idea how he got out. two of the three lids were down. I have floating plants to minimize sight lines. The only lid I had up was on the opposite side (so my Oscar can play with his ball). If he got out on that side he must have flopped across the room. Whatever happened he didn't go quietly. Its possible one of the other fish made him jump but I never had any indication.
Tank dynamic is different now. The oscar and parrot are unaffected. The rainbow cichlid has gone dark and stays closer to the chocolate. Bobo is more reclusive again. Felix brought live energy to the tank with his antics. Everything has gone 'sleepy' again.
0-2 now with acaras. Final size 5 1/2" long, 1 1/2" high and 1+" thick.
Debating whether to ever bother with another acara. Or at least a mid to small peaceful cichlid that would work.
