As some of you know I picked up my first Polyp last weekend it was a nice 10''Polypterus ornatipinnis.

I left town for a friday to do some fishing with some friends. Got home late satuerday night and thought I would go down and check on the new fish. When I got down there he was not in the tank. So I start looking around and sure enough there he was dried up under the stand.

What a crappy thing to come home to....

ouch! I feel for ya dude. It will help you with your next one to try and figure out why the fish wasn't able to settle down and feel comfortable in the setup.

I'm sorry for your loss. Bichirs are one of the most stupid fish in my opinion. It's in their natural behaviors to jump out of tank and dart into decors to protect themselves.

lol you will stop hating them eventually when you cool off. Once you're not mad and you see those teugelsi swimming around, you'll remember why you like them so much to keep over 50 of them ;)

lids are a must with polys

Thats horrible it sucks losing a fish. I have never seen my bichirs actually try to jump out of my tank however they are sometimes over zealous when coming to the surface for a breath of air.

Sorry for your loss, I too have learned the hard way. Now its full glass top in the big tank with form fitted plastic around the filter hoses and even the little QT tank gets sealed.
