I got a new kitten Thursday. I decided to name him "Squishy." Now the story behind the name. My son had gotten off his bus and decided to play outside in the snow. A few minutes later, he came barreling through the front door screaming about how there was a cat crying acrossed the road. We live acrossed the road from a golf course, it was recently sold and it is in the process of being remodeled and the ponds being dredged. Anyway, my wife and I decided to walk over and check the cries for help from the cat out. Just inside the drive, we had to pass a semi-truck that had a strange looking hitch, we determined that that is where that cries were coming from. As we looked around the semi, we could hear the cat but we couldn't see it. I bent down to get a better look underneath the semi, good thing I did. I saw a head sticking out from between the hitch plate and the frame of the truck, its hind feet were barely visible. We were able to get the semi driver to lift the hitch off the kitten, we were sure at that point in time that we were going to be taking the poor kitten home to bury it. There were no external injuries to the kitten so we brought it home to clean it up a little bit before taking it to the vet. Because the kitten was covered in grease, my wife decided to give him a bath, well, she got a nice bite on her finger for her trouble. While she was giving the kitten his bath, I called the vet so that she would wait for us to get there. I dried the kitten off the best I could and it just laid there in shock. At the vets office, they took x-rays and got the kitten warmed up. We were there about 2 hours, by the time we left the kitten was up and slowly walking around. The vet didn't find any injuries, so we decided to keep him. The vet didn't charge us for the x-rays and has offered to give him his shots to get him up to date as well as neuter him for free. She says that if we are going to give him a good home then that is the least she could do. So that is the story of how "Squishy" got his name and how he came to live with us.
