Sorry about you losing your female. I lost my male cutteri of a breeding pair (to a hostile Neet) a couple of months ago, I was sad to see the pair bond broken, especially by a death. I did order another male from Rapps, they are getting along decently, butdon't look like their close to breeding yet.
I think you can raise up the babies just fine. A lot of people will remove a rock (or other object) that have eggs on them and put it in a seperate aquarium. The fry will have visible yolk sacs which last a couple of days, so no need to feed them then. You can buy fry food at a LFS, there is something called "First Food" or something like that, you can squeeze a small amount in about 4-5 times a day. Also, newly hatched brine shrimp is also used. Then, finely crushed flakes. Oh yeah, a simple sponge filter is all you need in a fry tank, when there is growth on it the fry will sometimes also eat off that.
Good look, sounds like some cool fry you'll have. Raise them well, in their mother's memory.
