I wish the government would lift the Snakehead ban! It's sad that we can no longer have a great predator in our tanks. I wish I could get my hands on one!

It is the result of irresponsible hobbyist. People get them, lose interest or run out of space and then release tem into the wild. In the case of this species it has be environmentally and economically very damaging in many areas. People need to take responsibility for their fish and things like this would not happen. I agree it's sad (I'd like to have one), but the government steps in when people do the wrong thing. I understand why they were banned. BTW, they have been banned for a while now.

My suggestion is to get over the snakehead thing. There are plenty of other great predatory fish that you can legally keep and enjoy....ehh unless you live in California.

was it in fact a hobbiest that releasted one? or an emigrant that didnt truley realise what damage he was causing. how many invasives has the government released that have damaged an eco system?

sad to live in the use cuz u can't have a snakehead? go move to china or ethopia or something, and you will realize it isn't so bad. ill take living under one of the most powerful nations in the world over a snakehead, but hey what do i know?

Actually, it's believed the initial releases were due to the asian practice of 'ceremonial animal release'. A tradition where the person releasing an animal back to the wild will gain favor from the gods. One known release was a young man who released a pair of market snakeheads for luck the day he was to propose to his girlfriend.
