Sadly a new off topic thread

Hello; I posted some weeks to months ago about the screw fly on this and another site. Got no response. Now there are confirmed cases in Texas. Most likely more cases will be found. I have a possibly off the wall notion. I think the reports say Eagle Pass TX for at least one case.
Since those flies can infect humans I wonder if folks coming thru the Darrien Gap and into Eagle pass could have been carrying fly larvae?

It’s possible larvae hitched a ride on humans, but I’d sooner expect them to have originated from adult flies crossing the border. The outbreak in Mexico was close enough to eventually cause a problem if any wildlife or insects made it over.

Hello; I follow the newest outbreak could be for other reasons. The release of sterile males stopped the fly some decades ago and will be ramped up again. Just seemed too much of a coincidence after the huge numbers of people traveling the length of Mexico from all over the world. It will be bad enough on cattle ranchers regardless. I already do not buy much beef.
I hope I am wrong because there appears to have been weak to no quarantine measures at the border for a few years. Could be other disease or parasites tagged along.
