I saw a few posts already regarding this but they don't usually reach any consensus, currently having issues with algae and want to know if there are any algae eater that will not harm my rays. they are pups so they shouldn't be able to eat any larger fish, I considered getting a bunch of snails but doesn't feel like a long term solution if they all get eaten and not sure if they are safe for rays to eat.

A large pleco is your only real bet long term. A small pleco would get eaten eventually, otocinclus would get eaten, shrimp and snails would be eaten (though I think they'd be a good idea to have cheap ones that can be food, I have a bunch of snails I breed for my pike cichlid tank), I don't know if a red tail shark would work as they are a bit nasty, and siamese algae eaters would be good for now, but will likely get eaten later on.

Red tail sharks is a no go with rays. The eat the slimecoat and can do some nasty damage.

If you have trouble with algae you have to high nutritional values in your water and to much lighthours on your tank. But for algea i would go with an all herbivore pleco like an green ghost. They do the job and they grace on algae.

Flagtail maybe? big enough to not be bothered probably, timid and calm enough to coexist with ray.

It may work it may not work. Flagtails have a nasty habit of eating slimecoat.

yea I read the same thing, that it depends on the individual pleco

so green ghost's are less likely to suck on stingray slime coats? I went to a local fish shop today and they recommended flying foxes but another store said they were super aggressive so they might attack my stingray

mrrobxc mrrobxc paging mrrob since I know he has keps prochilodus with rays. I guess it could be a hit or miss. great algae munchers though, and very good looking

Yes green ghost is most likely gonna leave your ray alone.

Flagtails can be a hit or miss as stated. I have a flagtail that leaved my leo x motorohybrids i used to have but then i introduced him to my motoromale and started to eat the slimecoat so i had to seperate. Im gonna do another try later on when the flagtail has grown bigger.

are there any other pleco that you would recommend? green ghost in Australia are rare to find apparently

L137 hypostomus sonei is a great cleaner and will even eat leftovers from your ray. My personal preference lets the algae on the bottom side and back panels stay. I love algae and think its looks amazing.
