Hello,

What kind of algae eater would be safe with a senegalus bichir?

Thanks

Ive read in posts that bushynose plecos are the best at eating algae and dont feed on slimecoat of other fish

apple snail

I have six bichirs in a tank with about 36 plecos (30 or so different types) without any problems. I have tons of wood in the tank and I feed an obscene amount of food, so that might have something to do with it.

i would go for a royal pleco, big enough to not fit in the bichirs mouth. royals usualy leave the bichirs alone, so his slime coat will probably stay untouched. i have several plecos with bichir and the panaques never ever touch the bichir.

i agree if you have to go plecos instead of just controlling the algae or getting rid of it manually go with a small sp. of royal. however you will need bogwood, and of course to still feed it. plecos add a lot to your nitrates though, which is what would encourage algae growth. best way to defeat it is not much light, no nitrates.
