I am right now trying to get my hydrolycus armatus to eat feeders. It already eats live ones but I heard that the next steop to teach them to eat dead food is to feed them dead feeder fish. I have a 10 gallon tank to raise feeder gold fish and i'm wondering if i could feed my armatus the dead ones? How can i make sure the death of the fish isn't from disease? Is this a good method to kill the disease from the dead fish?

. I thought of freezing the dead feeder gold fish in the freezer.

Would this kill all diseases and make it safe for my armatus to eat? What your way to quarenteen dead feeders?

thanks.

Put them in saltwater before you put them in the tank. No bacteria or parasites will be able to survive in the saltwater.

After they're dead, get a piece of fishing line and string it through their bottom lip. Toss the feeder in and go fishing! I've had lots of good luck getting payara to take non-living food like this. Now, when I go fishing, I'll clean a catfish or trout, cut it into chunks and freeze it. I then thaw the chunks and feed them to my fish that refuse pellets. Best part? It's free!

Well you can it's just cruel to let them die slowly.

Youre feeding them to something. Put them in straight up saltwater for like 3-5 minutes the night before you feed the feeders or something. The weak ones will die. Its like doing a saltwater dip.

Also, tip to OP.
Start breeding convicts for feeders. They put off quite a lot.

I was referring to the method of placing the fish in the water just long enough to kill any parasites the fish might have on its body as it is sometimes done with saltwater fish but in freshwater.
