can i feed my gar a tadpole? has anyone else fed there gar tadpoles, iv got some monster bullfrog tadpoles i cuaght in the river today... alll responses welcome

keep in mind tadpoles (especially wild ones) can have a variety of parasites just like wild fishes. that being said, if your gar is big enough to swallow one they can be fed (better as a treat than a staple for sure). i have fed gars tadpoles in the past, but usually because they were mixed in with pond-collected minnows.--

Toad (as opposed to tad) poles can be toxic, depending on the species. Certainly Bufo marinus (marine/cane toad) is toxic in the adult and the egg and apparently the skin of the toadpole is also bad. From what I've seen fish seem to know this and not try to eat them, or I've seen JD's suck them in, chew them around then spit out the skin (after swallowing the innards).
