so kinda still new to the site but i have a question maybe some of you can help me answer. i am in the process of building a top for a 70 gallon tank. the tank is mainly for the turtle but has a few types of other fish in the tank aswell. she is quickly out growing the tank so im makin a top for basking areas so i can fill the tank up all the way. ive made a frame and side panels, land area already. however i need to paint the inside as to not see the wood behind. what types of paint, if any can i use. i figure high moisture, and non toxic. i am familure with the sweet water paints but they are abit pricey. any suggestions would really help.

I dunno about the paint but that's a really neat idea/design. hope you update with your progress :)

looks good... if you smear on a layer of silicone over the paint moisture wont be an issue.. (flat pieces of plastic/credit cards are GREAT for doing this)...

as for plants... cant really go wrong with any aquatic or even semi-aquatic plant..
water wisteria is a great plant and can take the beating/munching your turtle may/will do to it.. the stuff prettymuch can not be killed and as long as its in water it will grow.. strong lights/weak lights does not matter.. however salt will really really kick its butt...

silicone would be a good idea for certin parts. which ones are safe. the basics are now finished. the tanks now filled, new lights and the set up seems to be working very well. now ill go through and rearrange the tank, add decorations, plants etc. any other suggestions/ideas are more than welcome.

since the wood is not in contact with the water you can use whatever silicone you like.. clear would be my choice...

GE type 1 silicone is 100% silicone with no antifungal stuff... theres about a million locked debate threads on on if you can use the stuff with antifungal junk in it or not...

personaly i use GE type 1 on all of my tanks and it is in constant contact with my water..

you can use the silicone to secure all those rocks together in order to keep them from shifting turning all of your tank water into floor water...
