Hey Everybody,

I plan on setting up a saltwater tank , this time with no live rock plan on only using dry rock...don't need much. However I look into some online and it's basically still for the price of live rock maybe just a $1 or $2 less then a pound...I've heard of people just going to places like land scape supply companis...people usually purchase "lace rock" I'm just worried if I come across "lace rock" and place it in my tank if it will leak the not so healthy stuff in the tank...thanks a million!

Hey thanks for the reply,

The only problem i have is that i'm trying to get some specific rocks...getting picky lol. Trying to pic some rocks to create lots of space on the sand... so looking for big flat rocks with bases...rather purchase in person, but thanks again.

Just to be safe, I'm gonna purchase some realistic looking things from petco or something until I make dry rock as it looks extremely easy, cheap and get to make your own custom pieces! The only bad part is just the time it will take for it to leach out and become safe for the tank...approx 2 months

+1 for Marco rock's.... I know him personally... great guy.. great stuff... however if you're opting out of purchasing dry pro rocks... lace rock is a decent alternative... however you would have to cycle it through ro water for at least a week and then cycle it in your tank. While seeding it from either real reef rock or rock from someone who you trust.

Creating your own rock isn't too difficult... just time consuming...

I've been leaning towards the idea of making own rocks because not only is it far cheaper, but can make any shape I want and of coarse after awhile probably could sell it for some $$

If you want another.. check out reefrocks.net. They have some nice pieces and you can request flat shelf rock as well. IIRC, they also have an offer on free sand with purchase.
