What types of salts are safe to add to your aquarium for rays. I know kosher salt is good but table isn't. Can you use different salts eg. water softener, driveway, ect.... . The reason I'm asking is coming from a small town you usually don't have enough kosher salt in the store stock for large aquariums so looking for other alternatives. What is everyone else using?

I know that most freshwater fish are ok with iodized salt. Some, however, are more sensitive than others. Smaller concentrations of iodine can be toxic to certain species. I'm not sure about rays. I know that most experts will recommend half dosages of salt when adding to a tank with 'scaleless' inhabitants. You would also want to pre-dissolve it in some tank water before adding it to your tank.

Maybe you should link directly to the product page for the one you are using. That link just takes you to their home page.

if its just the plain crystal salt, you should be fine. just be sure it has no chemicals or additives. dont know if its available out there, but i use the Morton White Crystal Solar Salt. pure sodium chloride. costs me $5 for a 40lb bag
