Hi guys, i am just wondering if it is safe to feed earthworms from tackle store?
Thanks

Yep. I do it all the time. In my area, tackle stores tend to be a little cheaper than the pet stores. Chances are your pet stores and tackle shops are getting worms from the same distributors.

It can be but some earthworm farms use fungicides and such so I usually rinse them off and keep them in my worm farm..better safe than sorry.

However, I have also fed right from the container and havent had an issue. I just prefer my live food to be in my supervised conditions. Also, if you have a worm box, you can breed your own. Each worm produces another worm every month so if you let it be you can have an exponentially growing population of live food and wont have to buy it yourself..you just need to buy some corn meal and suuch as far as an expense to the project.

It does work, but IME, it makes my whole house smell horrible. Maybe I did something wrong.

Yea i can't even smell it from 1 foot away or when i open it. You might have had some food or worms die and putrify. Often this can happen when conditions are too wet or the worms are overfed. Some people just put their food scraps for feed but I give the surface a dusting of corn meal to avoid spoilage.
