hey ppl

i was thinking of trying some rays, but i have heard stories of feeding them bad worms which "can" lead to problems and in some cases death.

i was thinking bait stores heck even walmart stock worms!, but how safe are they? am i better off getting them from a worm farm? how would one know?

thanks

bait shops are pretty reliable, before i feed my monsters worms i inspect the worms for liveliness, make sure they aren't limp, and if you see any blotches or white spots don't use, One other trick i use, iremove all worms out of their packaging place them in a bowl(preferebly my wifes favorite:D )and rinse with warm water this does 2 things, removes bacteria and healthy worms will move vigorously to get out of water

when i was young, my step dad had a pond with turtles, frogs and crayfish in it. we would go out at night to the golf cource, wait for the sprinklers to turn on and catch TONS of crawlers, they come right to the top. the best way it to cut the top off a milk jug, leaving the handle on it and it works perfect, i plan on doing it this summer. cheap and great way to feed fish

i have a guy i found off ebay. My gachuas LOVE earthworms. Any UK ppl interested let me know.

I have a local wholesaler where I purchase crawlers in large amounts on a weekly basis. I use them to feed my rays and ship them to others as well. The main thing with canadian nightcrawlers is to keep them cool (35 to 45 degrees F), don't let the dirt they are in get too wet, and don't try to store them too long. We use our worms within two weeks. They can last longer, especially if they are fed and the dirt or bedding they are in is changed every two weeks or so. If worms are not fed and given new bedding as they age, they will start to get lethargic and lumpy and should not be fed to fish/rays at this point. Healthy worms are lively and thick. They should move around a lot when disturbed.
