Hey guys need advice on WC for a 6 foot tank.Should i remove the water ( roughly 15-20 %) , add antichlorine into the tank then add the water (from water storage tank in my house) into the tank. It certainly seems safer then adding in the water THEN the chlorine. Your thoughts ? First time keeping a tank of this size soo just curious. All thought welcomed.

i think the dechlorinator should be put in the untreated water thats going into your tank instead of the dechlorinator in the tank then the water but thats just my 2 cents

Ive always drained mine added dechlor to the tank then added water. I do 75% water changes 2 times a week on most tanks and never any problem.

+1 drain add dechlor filler up! Most important thing beside dechlor is to match the temp!

I've never added dechlorinator, it evaporates out so rapidly in tanks with agitation its not really an issue for a water change less than 50 percent IMHO(and that includes when I change water in my fry tanks too.) I like to add water that is warmer by a few degrees rather than cooler or same temp, seems to negate the shock fish can get from a water change.

in my 180g, I do about 30% water change weekly.

I have a seperate 50 gallon tub that I use to prep the new water for the tank. Load, treat and let sit for about an hour before I start the water change. Being that my aro loves to attack bubbles, I have a very small pump and hose that I use to load the tank. Its pretty much a very slow drip system that takes a hour to load the new water.

But what I have noticed in doing this, my aro isn't as stressed ( used to just dump the water in ) and its a lot less of a mess.

Here's how I do my water changes:

If WC is less than 35%:
1. drain
2. fill up tank
3. add conditioner

if WC is more than 35% (up to 70%):
1. drain
2. fill water in a separate container and treat with conditioner
3. transfer treated water into tank

More than 70% WC, I just drain, fill and treat in the tank.

100% wc
-drain tank
-add dechlor for total tank volume
-fill with tap water filtered through carbon filter

Continuous waterchange
-siphon water
-fill while siphoning but filtered through the carbon bottle
-add dechlor when done.

Seeing that you have a water holding tank why not add the dechlor into that 24-48hrs prior to doing a water change so that it will be ready come time?
