Hi there,

I am planning on getting my carpets professionally cleaned and was worried about fumes and chemicals in the air that might harm my shoal and things that I could do to safeguard them.

Thanks,

Missy

should be ok, if there's windows near by then keep them open.
if you are really concerned then cover the tank up with some blanket or something

I would cover it, nothing else you'll save your fish the stress of watching someone cleaning your carpets, n might save your fish from carpet guys tapping on your tank n sayn awwh look at the pretty fish.

Another thing to consider would be if you have an air pump. Is it gonna be pumping fumes straight into your tank where it's located?

LOL Thanks guys, just a newbie piranha keeper...wasn't sure if there was anything to look out for:)

any time. if you have any other questions feel free to ask

I am a Cert Carpet cleaning tech. and have cleaned my own carpets in my home with my 90 gl take at least 2x a year for 4 years now ... and fumes u don't have to worry about i would take advice someone else gave earlier in the thread and cover the tank the noise and amount of movement may stress the fish but the chem we use go directly to the carpet and i wouldn't be worried unless there is a chance that the spray can be accidentally sprayed into the tank which is a long shot. one time i bombed my house for fleas tho and i kept the air pump on turned off my filters and wrapped the top of the tank and filters with plastic wrap. then took it off when the bomb was done releasing . i hope this helps a little but u may have already got your carpets cleaned

Thanks for the info! I haven't scheduled it yet, too humid here...I will try the plastic wrap just to be safe. Good to know Irbanjaxed, thanks:)

Only prob I've had is blowing the breaker in my fish room! I too cover the tank to prevent stress. When my pygos get stressed they break equipment.
