I am thinking of getting one of these guys. I am only guessing but I believe this is what he is....Leiarius marmoratus..? Anyone have any info on them or is anyone keeping one of these? I am wondering about eating habits will he eventually be big enough to house with my RTC and my TSN? Can they be hand fed? Thanks for any info you guys may have.
I may just get him and see what happens it was hard to leave him there today doubt i can tomorrow :)

Mine is currently about 14"-15" and is currently coexisting fine with my 15" TSN. They should max out somewhere between 24"-30" and should be okay with RTCs and TSNs. As far as hand-feedability goes, mine regularly eats out of my hand and allows me to pet him. They are neat cats, but unfortunately they lose their striking juvie pattern as they get bigger.

Well I am not sure if he is Leiarius pictus or not. Do all the juveniles have the the 2 lateral bands down the sides? These 2 cats do not have those bands but theses guys are only 2" at the moment.

If they don't have the lateral bands down the side then they are not L. pictus but rather the L. marmoratus. The size, care and temperament of the two are practically the same. Either one would be a nice pickup.

L. marmoratus gets bigger than L. pictus. Ive had my L. pictus for two years and he has pretty muched maxed out at 24-26". They coexist great with other large catfish but are very territorial with others of the same species, he chases the 15" around all night. I found L. marmoratus commonly called marble catfish to be a bit more mellow when interacting with other cats.

The young Lierius pictus bands are more vivid. When they get older the bands fade out a lot. I have one about 18" long and he is the most aggressive eater in a tank with a rtc, a 28" shovel nose, 3-12" P. bass. The P.bass are quikest, but the Lierius out smarts the other cats. He won't stop eating. Never seems to get full.

I have to agree with you here. I sometimes have to handfeed my TSN because he gets outcompeted by the pictus.

Cool, I got one on back order, Hopefully I can pick it up next week cant wait.

Thanks for all the info. What is the growth rate of these guys? I am going tomorrow to get him I will post some pics tomorrow. Hopefully we will be able to decide what he is.
