Im planning on starting a Project breeding Sailfin Mollies, (for feeders an just to expand my fish knowledge). I currently have 3 acrylic 15s (for fry) an can either use a 20H, or I can get a 37 from a LFS.

Is there any special things I should know?

Cool thanks. Think one pair of mollies or a few? Plus I was thinking of having a partition (to keep the adults away from the new fry, until I can move them. about 1/3rd at the bottom for the fry an 2/3rds for the adults)

Mollies are best kept in trios. So, I'd do a single male and two females to start out in that sized tank. It won't take too long for your population to grow substantially.

Mollies aren't super aggressive fry eaters, so I wouldn't bother with the divider. I'd just include a whole bunch of java moss in the bottom of the tank, maybe some java fern, as well. Then, you can remove the fry to their own tank when you see them.

Ok thanks. What are good water parameters for them PH wise?

I keep mollies and have had fry. I usually wait until I see the fry, then net them into a net breeder for the first 3-4 days until they are strong. Then, I move them into a 10 gallon tank for grow out.

I have found that moving them right after birth has a higher loss rate then waiting a few days. The first time I moved them to a cycled tank, with water from their tank, I lost quite a few. The next time, I waited a few days and then moved them and only lost 3

Be sure and do ALOT of water changes as Mollies are very sensitive to water quality!

Ok thanks, I have a 10 gal wet/dry that im going to use to the tank.

You might want to get a sponge filter for the fry tank. I have one in mine and it works pretty well. I used a cycled tank filter and put the sponge filter in for 2 weeks until I was certain it was cycled, then removed the regular filter.

I have found that baby mollies seem to get sucked up in the filter more then the guppies and platys. If you don't want a sponge filter, try putting something over the intake of the fry tank to protect them.
