Hey

I bought a 2.5" sailfin plec last week and I'm really struggling to feed him. I had some heavy algae growth on my driftwood but after his first couple of days spent hiding, he stripped it clean in 2 days. Since then, I've been dropping different veggies in for him and he's just not interested at all. So far I've tried cucumber, apple and broccoli stems and he just doesn't seem to even acknowlege them as food. Pellets aren't an option because his tank mates would get these before he even knew what's going on. Noticed that he's starting to look really frustrated looking for algae but can't find any, so he's obviously hungry. Gonna try to pick up some courgette today. Any thoughts on what the hell this fish's deal is?

Thanks

Steve

Not all plecos like veggies, many prefer some meat based foods.

All the plecos I've ever had would eat Shrimp pellets. I recommend dropping some in after the lights go out(in his area, incase you have other night time fish).

Seems that pellets aren't grabbing his attention much either. I just stuffed a couple of different pellets into a piece of cucumber and dropped it in front of him. He had a nibble at the algae wafer in there for about 30 seconds or so and then seemed to lose interest

Better than most algae wafers ime are NLS wafers and Omega One veggie rounds, either one is good for pleco color/health ime and I use them to supplement whatever algae plecos eat in the tank. Also, I agree on a good quality shrimp pellet, ime it's a food a lot plecos like.

...As far as the veggie discs in the link, I'm not a fan of soybean meal in fish food, if it's in the ingredients list I won't use the product. Different species tolerance level for soy or similar ingredients varies, but I've read too much similar to this.
